Hastings resident Helen Mae (Blum) Rothfuss, 89, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Mary Lanning HealthCare in Hastings, Nebraska.
Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. In honoring her wishes to be cremated, there will not be viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service is serving the family.
Helen was born in Hastings on May 15, 1930, to John and Sophie (Scheneman) Blum. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1947 and moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked at Pacific Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company for three and a half years.
She married Irvin E. Rothfuss on November 12, 1949, at the Gretna Green Wedding Chapel in Yuma, Arizona. Two daughters were born to this union. They returned to Hastings where Helen worked at the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company, retiring in 1984 after thirty-two and a half years.
Helen was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 11, Vintage and Classic Wheels, Melon Roasters, and the Just for Fun Car Clubs.
Helen was a long-time volunteer at the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She dearly loved to play cards and will be greatly missed by her many friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 66 years, and two brothers.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Randy) Franks of Malcolm, NE, and Dana Rothfuss of Lincoln, NE, and two sisters and their families.
