Brian R. Mcginnis

Hastings resident Brian R. McGinnis, 48, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at his home after a 3 year battle with cancer.

Memorial service is 11:00 am Monday, August 8, 2016 at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE, with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. It was Brian's request for guests to wear casual clothing to the service. In honoring his wishes to be cremated there is no viewing or visitation. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to his family for a later designation.

Brian R. McGinnis was born June 16, 1968 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Loren "Mac" R. and Mary L. (Griffis) McGinnis. He grew up in Hastings, Nebraska and graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1986. Brian served his country in the U.S. Airforce. He was a Master Plumber. Brian lived in Rapid City, SD, Spearfish, SD, Sturgis, SD, and Phoenix, AZ before moving back to Hastings, NE. He collected CD's, movies, and shot glasses. Brian enjoyed building rockets and remote control airplanes, fishing, gardening & riding his motorcycle. He was also a competitive bowler on several leagues. Brian earned his Eagle Scout and was a member of the Hastings Skylarks.

Brian is survived by his parents, Loren "Mac" and Mary McGinnis of Hastings, NE; two sisters, Georgina Hueske her husband Gregg of Hastings, NE, and Monica McWilliams of Ottumwa, IA; brother, Darin Boggs and his wife Renee of Lawrence, KS; three nieces, Laura Enloe, Grayce Hueske, and Gilliyan Hueske; along with numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
