Mavis J Rowan Obituary (1933

Mavis J. Rowan, 82, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Monarch in Lincoln. Private family services will be held with burial at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. A gathering for a celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Hastings is handling arrangements. Mavis Jean Rowan was born April 2, 1933 in Winner, South Dakota, and the daughter of James W. and Hazel A. (Stone) McKenzie. She was baptized in Colome, South Dakota. Mavis graduated from Springview High School with the class of 1951 and from Wayne State College with a Teachers Certificate. She taught in a country school in the Nebraska Sandhills. Mavis married Harlan "Huck" Rowan on March 30, 1951. She had many job responsibilities which included owning and operating Rowan Plumbing and Heating, located in Osceola, Nebraska, secretary at the ASCS office, owner and manager of the Alma Short Stop and secretary of numerous building projects that her husband (Huck) was superintendent of. Mavis is survived by her husband of 64 years, Huck; daughters, Jacquie Rowan, and Jody Schrader and husband Dave; grandchildren, Kate Rowan, Nick Fernandez and wife Sacchan, Kody Schrader and wife Cora, and Casey Schrader and wife Stacy; and great grandson, Karter Schrader. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold & Lawrence.
