Reed Munsell

Hastings resident Reed F. Munsell, 98, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Mary Lanning HeathCare in Hastings, Nebraska.
Funeral Service is 10:00am, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Church of Christ, 1131 N Laird Ave. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at DeWitt Funeral Home, 604 S Burlington. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Reed F. Munsell, 98, of Hastings, Nebraska, went to be with the Lord Wednesday November 20, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska. Mr. Munsell was born July 29, 1926 in Lebanon, Kansas to Ira and Ethel (Chance) Munsell. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1944. He received the F.F.A. State Farmer award and continued on the farm after the death of his father in 1943, Reed was seventeen years old. Since he was left with his mother and a sizable farming operation, the draft board determined to exempt him from military service.
He married Betty R. Fitz in Inavale, Nebraska on March 21, 1948. They moved to a farm in Nebraska in 1949 then to Inavale in 1953. He took a correspondence course in accounting from LaSalle University of Chicago. He worked in Inavale and Red Cloud in accounting positions. The family moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1957, where he worked for Hastings Production Credit Association for 28 years before retiring in l986.
Mr. Munsell was a member of the Church of Christ in Hastings and served as elder from l984 to 2007, and taught youth and adult Bible classes. He enjoyed building as a hobby and was involved in building the present church building, fellowship hall and minister's residence at 12th. & Laird in Hastings. He served on the board of directors of Nebraska Youth Camp near Kearney for fifteen years.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Burl Munsell, sister Gwen Zinner Phipps, and grandson Jeremy Terhune.
Survivors include wife of 76 years, Betty Munsell of Hastings, daughter Vickie & husband Eddie Terhune of North Judson, Indiana, son Barry & wife Marlene of Wasilla, Alaska, son Paul & wife Lila of Hastings, son Jerry and wife Mary of Kearney, and daughter Donna Munsell of Hastings, foster daughter Donna and husband Dave Uden of Kenesaw, Nebraska.
Grandchildren, James Terhune, Philip Terhune & wife Allison, Jessica (Munsell) & husband Robert Moen, Jennifer (Munsell) & husband Ian Nicas, Alan Munsell & wife Emily, Carrie (Munsell) & husband Jacob Svoboda, Jacob Munsell, Megan (Munsell) & husband Mark Blinde, Sarah Uden and Elizabeth Montemayor.
Great-Grandchildren: James Reed, Evan Richard, Luke Paul & Azaria May Nicas, Ava Lily, Emma Claire, Max Kolbe, Charlie Alan, Jett Hudson & Gus Thomas Munsell, Adelyn Lauren, Brianna Lynn & Cecil Bear Blinde, Whitney Ann & Weston James Terhune, Ezekiel Emmett & Eliza Jo Munsell, Emelina Ruth & Linnea Marie Moen & Lucy Mae & Theo Louis Svoboda, and many other family and friends.
