Sherrill Crone Obituary (1936 - 2026)

Hastings, Nebraska resident Sherrill Crone, 89, passed away January 19, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare. Sherrill’s generous spirit is shown in her donation of body tissues to the organization Live On Nebraska. A burial service will be held at a later date. DeWitt Funeral Home & Cremation is serving the family. Memorial may be given to Faith Lutheran Church of Hastings, Nebraska. Sherrill was born October 26, 1936, at Shickley, Nebraska, to Wilfred and Elsie (Goesch) Frieden. She graduated from Shickley High School in 1954. Sherrill received her Nursing Diploma from Mary Lanning School of Nursing September 1957. A Degree of Master of Science in Education was received December 19, 1986, from Kearney State College. Sherrill was dedicated to nursing at Mary Lanning for over 40 years. Sherrill married Gerald Crone on January 16, 1960. To this union, one son, Craig, was born. Sherrill was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Claton, Warren and Earl, husband Gerald, son Craig, sister-in-law Velda Frieden, brothers-in-law Wayne Nelson and Lawrence Griess and niece Lori Nelson. She is survived by granddaughter Chaundra Uden of Minden, Nebraska, sisters Ila Nelson of Hastings, and Opal Griess of Sutton, Nebraska, cousins, nieces and nephews.
