Obituary

Dennis W. Hawthorne, 65, of Aurora, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Mary Lanning Health Care in Hastings, Nebraska, from stage 4 lung cancer.

Dennis was born April 14, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Lonnie and Jacqueline (Petry) Hawthorne. If you knew Dennis, you already know that no words can describe him. He was super spunky and with Dennis you got to see the good, the bad, and the ugly. He had the biggest heart and always opened his door to anyone who needed it, even when he shouldn’t have.

In his prime, he was a truck driver and traveled across the United States. Dennis was by no means a perfect man, but he loved his Folgers and little chihuahua “Trucker” almost as much as he loved everyone, he called family. He enjoyed music, singing, and spending time with his grandkids.

Dennis is survived by his children, Heather (Travis) Burkholder, Lonnie Hawthorne, Nathan Menagh, Jessica Holiday, and Crystal Burmood; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren (with one expected soon); and brothers, Charles (Lori) Hawthorne and Steve Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Shaffer; and sister, Trinity Seder.
