Douglas Thompson Obituary

Douglas Roy Thompson, 33, was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, due to a vehicular accident.

Doug was born on May 2, 1987, in North Platte, Nebraska to Roy and Mary Thompson. His early childhood was filled with love from his parents and his older sister. The traits his mother and father instilled in their children; of faith, adoration of family, and a strong work ethic shaped his existence and forged unbreakable bonds. Even from a young age Doug had a unique sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. His passion for life was infectious and resulted in countless life-long friends. Once as a toddler he kissed (and was stung by) a bee and when asked why he replied, "I was just trying to love it." He loved with an open mind and an open-heart befriending souls from every walk of life.

In 2004, he graduated from Pine Ridge Job Corps at Chadron, Nebraska and later went on to work for Mitchell Drywall. During that time he met his dear friend and co-worker, John Cummings. Together they created their own drywall company John Cummings Construction, where Doug was the foreman as well as the heart of their crew. There was always something to be garnered from his perspective as he was a leader who connected to people with his life lessons.

Doug was recently engaged to the love of his life and mother of his two daughters, Pearl Fox.

Fatherhood and teaching his two young daughters became his greatest joy, but his second favorite thing was to be in nature. Whether it was fishing with his family, hunting, foraging for morels and wild asparagus, or even just sitting in the shade by the lake. When he was in nature he was at peace.

He also loved to work with his hands helping his friends with projects of all sorts, big and small. He has worked on multiple Habitat for Humanity houses and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He treated each of his friends like family and more than anything he always wanted his family to be together. The ornery grin, his laugh, his strength, and his dependability will be deeply missed by many.

Doug is survived by his fiancée Pearl Fox and his two daughters Mary Thompson and Gracelynn Thompson of North Platte, NE; his father Roy Douglas Thompson, North Platte NE; his sister and brother-in-law Amanda and Mason Neal, North Platte NE; As well as innumerable but treasured aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family from all over.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother Mary Ellen Thompson of North Platte, NE.

Cremation was chosen and a date for a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time when his many friends and family can be together.

Memorials, flowers, and donations can be sent to Roy Thompson and Pearl Fox both at 1505 West 13th Street North Platte, NE 69101. There is also a GoFundMe established at https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-foxthompson-family-fund and the 18th annual Scooter's Poker Run is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2020, to help his family during this difficult time.

A special thank you to the families of Mark Thompson, Perry Thompson, Sheila Thomlison, and Mike O'Donnell, as well as DeWitt Funeral Home in Hastings, Nebraska in cooperation with Adams & Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte, Nebraska for their services and all the people who've reached out to help in every way.

I pray that I may live to fish

Until my dying day.

And when it comes to my last cast,

I then most humbly pray:

When in the Lord's great landing net

And peacefully asleep

That in His mercy I be judged

Big enough to keep.
