Linda Onken Obituary

Hastings resident Linda Sue Onken, 68, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care in Hastings.
Linda was born May 17, 1943, in Alma, Nebr., the daughter of Fay R. and Ardythe F. (Reams) Smith. She attended school in Franklin before her family moved to Hastings where she graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1961. Linda married Don Karsting; they later separated. Linda married Lyle G. Onken on December 16, 1969, in Grand Island, Nebr. Linda raised her family in Hastings; she would always tell her girls she was "born to be a mother". She cherished her family and enjoyed genealogy, watching movies and was an avid reader. Linda enjoyed taking trips even if it was just to her second home (Wal-Mart). She was fantastically funny, and had a sharp wit. Linda was a member the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Lyle; three daughters, Kimberly Towns and husband Tod of Thornton, Colo., Cynthia OnkenGlimm and husband Craig of Parker, Colo., and Krystal Dinslage and husband Matt of Columbus, Nebr.; four grandsons, Dominik Towns, Keaton Towns, Nicholas Glimm, and Matthew Dinslage; brother, Gary Smith and wife Mary of Lacrosse, Wisc.; two sisters, Gloria Jean Knapp and husband Tom of Hastings, and Diane Kay Sovis of Burnsville, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
