Obituary

Hastings resident Lyman Mayhew, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Mary Lanning HealthCare in Hastings, Nebraska.

Private family services will be held at a later date. DeWitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service is helping with arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to his family for a later designation.

Lyman Mayhew was born on June 11, 1938, in Erving, Massachusetts, the daughter of Raymond James Mayhew and Doris Caroline (Gunn) Mayhew I. He graduated from Erving High School and served in the U.S. Army. Lyman married Alice Bergeron on October 15, 1965. As a door to door salesman of baby furniture in his younger life he once met Sam Walton. He was also an owner operator of BBQ restaurants in various states and was even written up in the Denver Post as one of the top restaurants at the time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the horseraces.  

Lyman is survived by his children; Jody Piper (Larry) of Gallatin, TN, Debbie Eden (Larry) of Hartsville, TN, Kathy Gaines (David) of Lafayette, TN, Kevin Mayhew (Debbie) Loveland, CO, Jim Mayhew (Tonya) of Giltner, NE, Lyman Mayhew Jr of Steamboat Springs, CO, Pamela Mayhew of Denver, CO, Peter Mayhew (Joann) of Corona, CA, and Paul Mayhew (Amy) of Hartsville, TN; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and brother Raymond James Mayhew II (Cathleen) of Dandridge, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Thelma; and brothers, John and Herald.
