Steven Kenneth Portenier, born on February 14, 1952, in Hastings, NE, to Kenneth and Genevieve (L'Heureux) Portenier. A Hastings native, Steven graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1970 before gallantly serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Roosevelt, followed by serving in the Army National Guard. After his service, Steven returned home and opened his own business, Steve Portenier Wood Furniture Repair. His love for woodworking was evident in the beautiful pieces he restored. Steven worked in the Maintenance Department at Hastings College, where he later retired. His passion for life extended beyond work; he enjoyed fishing, watching The Price is Right, and was a member of the American Legion and Peace Lutheran Church.
Steven is survived by his daughter, Brenda Breeding of Fairbanks, AK; sisters, Karen Adams and Mary Rose; brother, Mike (Sherri) Portenier; former wife, Wanda Portenier all of Hastings, NE; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
